OpenBCI is made up of people who build open source tools and software for biosensing and neuroscience from scratch. Their mission is to lower the entry bar for other solutions to the brain-computer interface market, assuming that this technology will be used in an ethical manner, protecting users and their mental health.

OpenBCI's latest project is Galea, a hardware and software platform combining next-generation biometrics with mixed reality (MR). It integrates EEG (electroencephalography), EMG (electromyography), EDA (exploratory studies), PPG (photoplethysmography) and eye tracking in one package.
It combines a multimodal sensor system with immersion in augmented reality (AR) and virtual reality (VR), providing researchers, developers and creators with a new tool for understanding and improving the human mind and body.

Currently, there is a race on the computer hardware market between the largest companies, such as Meta and Apple, to define the next evolution of personal computers, in which OpenBCI is leading.
Conor Russomanno (Founder and CEO) and his team believe that the convergence of spatial computing, on-body sensors and AI will define the next generation of devices.

Another new feature in OpenBCI is cEEGrids Ear-Worn EEG, a device created by Michael Knierim and his team.

cEEGrids are a flexible, reusable and comfortable set of electrodes around the ear that record EEG and other physiological phenomena. This biosignal acquisition system enables discreet recording of electrophysiological changes (e.g. EEG, ECG, EMG) using inconspicuous electrodes placed around the ears.
