Mendi

The Mendi Headset is a portable neurofeedback training device that allows you to observe changes in the brain's prefrontal cortex activity in real time and conduct concentration training sessions using a mobile app.
The device uses fNIRS (Functional Near-Infrared Spectroscopy) technology.
Unlike EEG devices, Mendi does not measure electrical activity or brain waves. Using red and near-infrared light, it monitors changes in blood flow and hemoglobin oxygenation in the prefrontal cortex (PFC).

The Mendi Headset is a portable neurofeedback training device that allows you to observe changes in the brain's prefrontal cortex activity in real time and conduct concentration training sessions using a mobile app.
The device uses fNIRS (Functional Near-Infrared Spectroscopy) technology.

The prefrontal cortex is a region of the brain associated with attention control, decision-making, working memory, and the regulation of behavior and emotions, among other functions.
The measurement is non-invasive – the device does not use contact electrodes and does not conduct electrical or magnetic brain stimulation. Data from the sensors is transmitted wirelessly to the Mendi app, which converts the measured activity into feedback presented to the user during neurofeedback training.

Software Required

To use Mendi, you must install the free Mendi App.
The app is available for smartphones running Apple iOS and Android.
According to the manufacturer's current, dedicated compatibility page, the recommended minimum requirements are:
- iPhone – iOS 16.0 or later,
- Android – Android 8.0 or later.
The Mendi app is optimized for smartphones.
The manufacturer does not currently offer a Mendi app for Windows or macOS computers.
Installing the app on some tablets may be possible, but the manufacturer does not currently recommend tablets as the primary device for operating the system.
Bluetooth is required to connect the band to the smartphone.
On Android, the app may require location permission, as this is used by Android when searching for Bluetooth devices.
An internet connection is required for logging in and synchronizing data.
Each user can have a separate account, allowing training data, results, and progress history to be saved individually. You can create an account using your email address or supported Apple/Google login methods. Using the app's basic features doesn't require a paid subscription or recurring fees.

How the training works

The user places the Mendi headband on their forehead, with the sensors positioned directly above the skin and below the hairline.
Optical sensors record changes in blood flow and oxygenation associated with changes in prefrontal cortex activity.
Data is transmitted to the mobile app in real time.
The app provides feedback in the form of an interactive training session resembling a simple game.
The user's task is to maintain an appropriate level of concentration and observe the app's response to changes in the recorded signal.
After training, the app allows users to analyze the results of individual sessions and monitor performance changes over time.
Mendi Score allows users to compare current workouts with previous results and monitor exercise consistency.
