What is fNIRS neurofeedback?

Most consumer neurofeedback relies on measuring electroencephalography (EEG) or brain waves. Instead, in functional near-infrared neurofeedback (fNIRS), fNIRS detects changes in local blood flow and brain oxygenation in response to neuronal activation.

Mendi’s high-fidelity fNIRS signals are processed using proprietary algorithms to create simple, visually understandable, and easy-to-learn local feedback signals.

The key aspect of this technology is that it measures the brain’s response to changes in activation, which allows for much more efficient and precise neurofeedback training.

How does it work?

The fNIRS sensor is placed above the forehead, and below it is the prefrontal cortex (PFC), which plays a key role in executive mental processes (e.g., focus and working memory). fNIRS neurofeedback is similar to strength training for the PFC — with repeated training, there will be lasting structural and functional neuroplasticity. Because it is a form of neural exercise, Mendi neurofeedback training is completely safe, proven to be effective, and its benefits are long-lasting.

Regular exercise is key
The best results from brain training are achieved through systematic training. The manufacturer recommends that users exercise three times a week for six to eight weeks to achieve optimal results.
