The Brain Products X.on set is a portable, wireless EEG system designed for conducting neurophysiological research outside of a traditional laboratory setting, as well as for educational and research applications.
The system enables EEG signal recording from 7 channels located at positions F3, F4, C3, Cz, C4, P3, and P4.
The X.on was developed by Brain Products GmbH, a manufacturer of professional EEG systems and solutions for neurophysiological research.
The set uses passive Ag/AgCl electrodes equipped with sponges soaked in electrolyte solution, which reduces subject preparation time compared to traditional systems requiring gel.

EEG data can be recorded locally and transmitted in real time using the LSL (Lab Streaming Layer) standard. The user has access to raw EEG data, allowing for further analysis using external research tools.
The system can be used with Android devices and Windows computers.
The optional PEER software also enables ERP research using Apple iOS devices.
X.on is a solution intended for professional research and educational applications.
X.on is not a medical device and should not be used for diagnosis, therapy, medical monitoring, or other medical purposes.

500 Hz and 24-bit functionality depends on the Android device or Windows computer used and its Bluetooth module; the manufacturer recommends at least Bluetooth 4.2 for these features.
Software Required for Operation
One of the supported X.on software environments is required to operate the system.
X.on App for Android – software supplied with the kit.
Required operating system: Android 10 or later.
The X.on App for Android allows:
- checking electrode impedance,
- viewing the EEG signal,
- recording data,
- saving data on a mobile device,
- transmitting data via LSL – Lab Streaming Layer,
- accessing EEG data in real time,
- generating a test signal,
- recording additional data from the phone's sensors.
Data can be saved in the BrainVision Core Data Format – BVCDF (.eeg, .vhdr, .vmrk).
Data transmitted via LSL can be recorded on a computer in XDF format.
The manufacturer reserves the right to guarantee full functionality for every device running Android 10 or later.
X.on App for Windows PC – software supplied with the kit. Required operating system: Windows 11 64-bit.
The application enables:
- electrode impedance control,
- creation of an LSL data stream,
- access to raw EEG data in real time,
- integration with programs supporting the Lab Streaming Layer.
Data can be saved on a computer in XDF format using appropriate LSL-compatible software, such as LabRecorder.
Compatible tools, such as LSL Viewer, can be used to monitor LSL data.
Optional PEER Software
PEER is not required for basic operation of the X.on system.
PEER is an additional solution designed primarily for conducting ERP (Event Related Potentials) research.
The PEER app is compatible with Apple devices running iOS 14.1 or later.
Each new X.on kit includes a trial version of PEER, allowing for 10 recordings.
The full version of PEER requires a separate license.
PEER enables:
- conducting ERP experiments,
