XREAL AURA is a pair of spatial computing glasses running Android XR.
The product is not a traditional virtual reality headset or merely an external head-mounted display.

XREAL AURA is a pair of spatial computing glasses running Android XR.
The product is not a traditional virtual reality headset or merely an external head-mounted display.
The system consists of:
- glasses containing displays, cameras, sensors, microphones, speakers, and the XREAL X1S spatial processor,
- a wired computing module, the so-called compute puck, containing the main processor, memory, data storage, and battery.

A digital image is overlaid on a direct view of the real world. The user views through transparent optics, not at the image of the surroundings transmitted from the cameras. The device will enable:
- using a private large screen,
- creating a multi-screen workspace,
- watching movies and multimedia content,
- gaming,
- using Android XR apps,
- working with spatial and WebXR apps,
- operating apps and the system using voice, hands, and the touchpad,
- using the Gemini assistant, which can analyze camera images and the surrounding context after the user grants consent.

Software Required for Operation

The base operating system is Android XR installed on the computing module.
The glasses must be connected to the computing module via a wire.
For basic use of spatial functions, a separate XREAL phone app is not recommended.
Apps are to be installed via Google Play.

The manufacturer announces access to:
Google Maps,
YouTube,
Gemini,
Chrome,
Google Photos,
apps designed specifically for Android XR.

Gemini on Android XR is used for the artificial intelligence functions.
For use with a computer or mobile console, the DisplayPort input can be used via USB-C.
For developers, support for ADB and the Android XR SDK will be available.
XREAL has not yet published complete instructions for initial setup, Google account requirements, or functionality without internet access.
