BrainAccess EEG Cap

Product Type: Reusable EEG cap designed for mounting electrodes and conducting multi-channel electroencephalographic measurements.
Description: The BrainAccess EEG Cap is a flexible cap designed for recording EEG signals in conjunction with the BrainAccess MINI, MIDI, and MAXI acquisition systems.
Electrode Placement System: The cap's layout complies with the international 10–20 EEG electrode placement system.
Number of Marked Electrode Positions: 36.
Maximum Measurement Configuration: Up to 32 EEG acquisition channels, plus a REF/R reference electrode position, a BIAS/B electrode, and two M1 and M2 mastoid positions.
Electrodes: The cap is compatible with dry, gold-plated Neurotechnology electrodes and Datwyler SoftPulse™ electrodes. Dry Electrode Technology: Using compatible dry-contact electrodes allows for measurements without the need for traditional skin preparation or the application of conductive gel.
Design: Flexible design conforms to the shape of the head and ensures stable electrode positioning during EEG recording.
Material: Neoprene.
Adjustment: An adjustable buckle mechanism and two hook-and-loop/Velcro straps allow for a symmetrical and stable fit of the cap.
Stabilization: A reinforced elastic chin strap limits electrode movement during jaw movements, speaking, and facial muscle activity.
EEG Device Attachment: A Velcro surface is located on the back of the cap for attaching a compatible BrainAccess device.
Markings: Electrode positions are clearly marked to facilitate correct and repeatable electrode placement.
Electrode Holes: 12 mm diameter.
Cable Management Holes: 5 mm diameter.
Cable Management: Cable management holes are located near the electrode positions to stabilize them and reduce artifacts related to cable movement. Colors: Admiral Blue and Cool Gray.
Reusability: The cap is designed for repeated use.
Cleaning: After removing the electrodes, wires, and all electronic components, the cap can be hand washed or machine washed at a maximum temperature of 30°C on a gentle cycle.
Drying: Air dry only; the manufacturer prohibits tumble drying, ironing, wringing, and bleaching.Available BrainAccess EEG Cap Sizes

Small – S: head circumference 48–52 cm.
Medium – M: head circumference 50–55 cm.
Large – L: head circumference 54–59 cm.
The manufacturer indicates size S as suitable for adolescents/children and some adult women, among others.
Sizes M and L are primarily intended for adult users.

EEG System Models/Configurations

The BrainAccess EEG Cap is compatible with three EEG acquisition systems. The physical cap has 36 marked positions, while the number of electrodes used depends on the selected EEG device.

BrainAccess MINI: 8-channel EEG system.
BrainAccess MIDI: 16-channel EEG system.
BrainAccess MAXI: 32-channel EEG system.
The placement of active electrodes on the cap depends on the MINI, MIDI, or MAXI version. The MINI configuration is designed for projects requiring fewer channels, high mobility, and simpler setup.
The MIDI configuration offers 16 channels and offers a balance between mobility and extensive head coverage.
The MAXI configuration utilizes up to 32 EEG channels and provides the largest head coverage of any BrainAccess cap-compatible system.

Required Components

The BrainAccess EEG Cap itself is a passive device and does not enable standalone EEG recording.

To set up a working station, you will need:

A BrainAccess EEG Cap in the appropriate size,

An EEG acquisition device: BrainAccess MINI, MIDI, or MAXI,
Compatible EEG electrodes,
Electrode leads,
For MIDI and MAXI devices, an appropriate electrode connection module,
A Bluetooth communication interface,
A computer or compatible mobile device,
BrainAccess software for communication with the device and data recording.

Software

BrainAccess Board – basic desktop software recommended for standard system operation.
The BrainAccess Board enables connection to BrainAccess devices via Bluetooth, system configuration, real-time EEG signal visualization, and starting and stopping recording.
The software allows viewing and quality control of EEG data.
The BrainAccess Board allows for recording EEG signals and their subsequent viewing and processing.
A module is available for converting EEG recordings to formats used by popular analytical environments, including FIF, SET, BIDS, and CSV.
The software supports LSL – Lab Streaming Layer, enabling synchronization of EEG data with other devices, programs, and data streams.
The BrainAccess Board also provides a Python API for accessing EEG data and controlling selected program functions from your own scripts.
Current BrainAccess Board version: 2.6.0.
Supported BrainAccess Board systems: Windows 10 or later and Ubuntu 22.04 or later.
Required disk space: approximately 4 GB.
macOS: According to the manufacturer, support is planned but not yet available.

BrainAccess SDK

The BrainAccess SDK is a free software development kit that allows direct operation of BrainAccess devices without relying solely on the BrainAccess Board graphical interface.
The SDK enables device control, channel configuration, real-time EEG data acquisition, and integration of the BrainAccess system with your own research software.
C/C++ and Python interfaces are supported.
The SDK provides functions for EEG processing and the creation of BCI (Brain-Computer Interface) applications.
Data streaming via LSL and integration with external EEG analysis environments are possible.
The current BrainAccess SDK version: 3.6.0.
The SDK is available for Windows and Linux.

BrainAccess Mobile App

The BrainAccess Mobile App is an alternative solution for operating BrainAccess devices from Android devices.
The app allows you to collect and record EEG data on your mobile device. Data can also be transferred over Wi-Fi to other systems.

Kotlin SDK

BrainAccess customers also have access to the Kotlin SDK, designed to help them create their own native Android applications that work with BrainAccess devices.

Is additional software required?

No. The manufacturer provides the basic BrainAccess Free Software Suite at no additional charge.

The package includes the BrainAccess Board, BrainAccess SDK, and BrainAccess Mobile App.
For a standard laboratory setup with a computer, the BrainAccess Board is the simplest solution.

The SDK is not required for standard EEG recording with the BrainAccess Board; it is primarily intended for integration, automation, creating custom applications, and BCI research.
