The HTC VIVE Eagle are lightweight smart glasses equipped with a camera, microphones, open-ear speakers, and artificial intelligence (AI) capabilities. This product is not a VR (Virtual Reality) headset or traditional AR (Augmented Reality) glasses that display information on the lenses. Its primary functions rely on image and sound recording, data analysis by VIVE AI, and voice feedback through the built-in speakers.

The glasses allow users to take photos and record videos from the user's perspective, listen to music, make phone calls, create voice notes, use an AI assistant, and translate text viewed through the camera, among other things. The VIVE AI can use Google Gemini and OpenAI GPT models, although GPT support is currently listed as a beta version.

Software Required for Operation

To configure and fully operate the glasses, you need:

the VIVE Connect mobile app,
a phone with Android 10 or later or iOS 17.6 or later,
an active Bluetooth connection,
internet access,
an HTC account,
the VIVE AI service,
for some Android commands – a properly configured Google Gemini app,
for iPhones – access to the appropriate Siri features, including the ability to work with the phone locked.

The VIVE Connect app is used for:

first-time setup and pairing of the glasses,
setting button behavior,
managing photos and videos,
managing notes and conversations with the VIVE AI,
updating the glasses' firmware,
making backups,
restoring factory settings.

The VIVE Connect app interface currently supports English, Japanese, and Traditional Chinese. The app interface is not available in Polish.

Polish Language Support

Does the device support Polish?

Polish language support is partial.

Polish is on the official list of languages ​​recognized by the Visual Translation feature, which translates text seen through the camera. This means the glasses can recognize text in Polish, such as a sign, menu, instruction, or document fragment.

However, there are significant limitations:

Polish text can be translated primarily into English or Traditional Chinese;

The VIVE Connect app does not have a Polish interface;

Polish is not officially listed as the language for voice control and assistant responses;

Polish is not currently on the list of languages ​​supported by VIVE AI Notes;

There is no confirmed function for real-time translation of voice conversations from Polish to another language.

VIVE AI Notes currently supports English, French, German, Italian, Spanish, Japanese, Korean, Thai, Indonesian, Vietnamese, and Traditional Chinese, among others, but not Polish.

How does translation take place?

Translation is a visual and aural process:

The user looks at the text;

The glasses' camera captures the text in their field of view;

The user activates the function with a voice command, for example, "Translate this," or with a dedicated AI button;

The system recognizes the text and translates it;

The translated summary is read aloud through the glasses' speakers.

The translation is not displayed as text on the lenses. The official instructions indicate that VIVE AI "reads a translated summary" of the text the user sees. This is a more intelligent translation and summary of the text than traditional word-by-word translation.

Example:

The user looks at a Polish information board;

The user activates the "Translate this" command;

The glasses analyze the image;

The response in English is read through the open-ear speakers.

Accuracy depends on lighting, image sharpness, font size, background, internet connection, and the AI ​​model. HTC reserves the right to limit the accuracy of the results generated by external language models.

Is the Polish translation free or paid?

HTC does not specify a separate fee or language pack for the Polish language.

However, translation is a VIVE AI feature, and the manufacturer states that full access to AI features requires the paid VIVE AI Plus premium service.

When purchasing VIVE Eagle, the user receives:

24 months of free VIVE AI Plus trial;
access to enhanced AI responses;
local information search;
extended or unlimited AI memory features;
access to other premium features provided by HTC.

After the 24-month trial period ends, continued full access may require a subscription fee. HTC does not currently disclose the official price of VIVE AI Plus for Poland or the clear scope of free features that will remain available after the trial period. Therefore, it is not possible to confirm whether visual translation will remain fully available without a subscription.

Disadvantages and Limitations

No display in the lenses – the product does not display translations, navigation, or notifications in front of the user.
Translation is read aloud, which may be less convenient in noisy environments or situations requiring discretion.
Polish is only partially supported.
No Polish app interface.
No official support for Polish voice commands.
No Polish language in VIVE AI Notes.
The Polish translation function is primarily limited to translation into English or Traditional Chinese.
Most AI functions require a smartphone, the VIVE Connect app, and an internet connection.
Active operating time is limited – up to 4.5 hours of music or over 3 hours of talk time.
The battery has a small capacity of 235 mAh.
The IP54 rating only provides splash resistance; the glasses should not be used in heavy rain or immersed in water.
The accuracy of translation results and AI responses is not guaranteed. Some features depend on external services such as Google Gemini, OpenAI GPT, Siri, or your phone's assistant.
Full access to AI is tied to the VIVE AI Plus service.
There is no subscription price listed after the 24-month trial period.
The camera in the glasses may raise privacy concerns for those around you.
The user is responsible for obtaining any required consents for recording individuals and processing their image.
The glasses are not intended as certified safety glasses.
The European version is currently in the "Register Interest" stage, and the product is not listed as available for purchase in the official Polish VIVE store.
