The Nature of Force Feedback
TouchDIVER Pro primarily utilizes cutaneous force feedback, which is pressure applied to the skin of the fingertip. This allows the user to feel the moment of contact with an object, its relative hardness, ridges, and surface resistance.
However, this is not full kinesthetic feedback, preventing finger movement. The gloves do not mechanically retain the entire joint and do not replicate the actual weight of an object acting on the hand, wrist, and arm. Therefore, the user can feel contact with the virtual object, but not its full mass or inertia. This is a significant limitation when designing simulations requiring heavy lifting.
