Melt Interface Technologies ContactGlove3 Magnetra3

ContactGlove3 + Magnetra3 is a set of two control gloves designed primarily for the SteamVR environment. The solution records the position and orientation of all five fingers on each hand, enabling the reproduction of finger bending, finger spacing, and precise hand movements in a virtual environment.
Unlike simple gloves that use only bend sensors, the ContactGlove3 uses EMF (Electromagnetic Field) measurement technology. The manufacturer calls it Zero-Drift™ Technology because the finger position is directly measured, rather than calculated based on subsequent movement changes. This is intended to reduce error buildup and virtual finger position drift during extended use.

ContactGlove3 + Magnetra3 – Precision Control Gloves for VR, Motion Capture, and Simulation

The set includes Magnetra3 modules, which provide buttons and a physical grip lock button. This allows you to hold a virtual object even when the user changes hand position.

Key Features
Tracking of all five fingers in six degrees of freedom (6DoF), i.e., positioning along the X, Y, and Z axes and rotation around three axes;
Measurement of finger spacing, bending, and precise fingertip movements;
Manufacturer-declared median sensor position error: 0.5 mm;
Maximum position error: 1.5 mm;
Median orientation error: 0.4°;
Maximum orientation error: 1°;
Data transmission frequency: at least 100 Hz;
Declared latency: approximately 30 ms;
Haptic Reactor vibration feedback;
Fingertips-exposed design;
Keyboard can be used without removing gloves;
Replaceable and washable textile element;
Dedicated thumb tracking pads;
Grip Lock button to maintain grip;
Compatibility with applications using SteamVR controllers;
One-time calibration as declared by the manufacturer; operating time: approximately 8–10 hours.

The accuracy of 0.5–1.5 mm is a value measured by the manufacturer using its own method and in the recommended environment. This is not the result of an independent laboratory test or a guarantee of identical accuracy in every room.

Technical Specifications

Hand and Finger Tracking
Measurement method: Electromagnetic – EMF;
Technology: Zero-Drift™ Technology;
Number of tracked fingers: Five on each hand;
Finger tracking range: 6DoF;
Position error: Median 0.5 mm, maximum 1.5 mm;
Orientation error: Median 0.4°, maximum 1°;
Data rate: Minimum 100 Hz;
Latency: Approximately 30 ms;
Calibration: One-time calibration as declared by the manufacturer.

Communication
Communication via a dedicated USB receiver;
A 1.2 m extension cable is included;
The receiver can be conveniently positioned thanks to its magnetic mount.

Power Supply
Battery capacity: 1200 mAh;
Declared operating time: 8–10 hours;
Charging: USB Type-C;
Power adapter and USB charging cables not included.

Vibration feedback
generated by the Haptic Reactor module.

The manufacturer does not describe the system as full force feedback or kinesthetic feedback. This means that the gloves can generate vibrations, but it should not be assumed that they will physically stop the fingers on the surface of a virtual object or reproduce its weight, stiffness, or resistance.

Available sizes:
S;
M;
L;
XL.

Before purchasing, carefully measure your hands according to the manufacturer's size chart. The store states that returns due to incorrect size selection are not accepted. Individual glove sizes must be used with the corresponding sensor variants.

Magnetra3 Module

Magnetra3 is a glove-mounted control module designed to replace the basic functions of a traditional VR controller. It includes control buttons and a mechanism that allows the control to be moved away when the user wishes to freely use their hands.

Required Software

For standard VR operation:
Microsoft Windows;
DivingStation application;
Steam;
SteamVR;
appropriate VR headset software;
an application or game that runs in the SteamVR environment.

DivingStation is the manufacturer's integration program used to configure the gloves and connect them to the VR environment. The manufacturer officially supports Windows only. MacOS, Linux, Android, and other systems are not supported in the standard version of the product.

For developing your own software

The standard version of ContactGlove3 does not include:
Unity SDK;
Unreal Engine SDK;
ROS 2 SDK;
MotionBuilder Plugin;
VMC Protocol;
a general communication protocol enabling direct sending and receiving of data via the port.

For custom integrations, research, robotics, artificial intelligence, training applications, or custom motion capture, the manufacturer recommends the ContactGlove3 Pro version.

This is one of the most important limitations before purchase. The standard ContactGlove3 should not be considered an open development platform simply because it works with SteamVR.

Hand Tracking System Required

The ContactGlove3 tracks the position of your fingers relative to your hand, but the standard kit does not provide independent global hand tracking within a room.

To use the gloves as full VR controllers, additional devices are required to determine the position of your left and right hands.

SteamVR Tracking / Lighthouse Variant

Required:

One or more SteamVR Base Stations 1.0 or 2.0;

Two compatible trackers, for example:
Tundra Tracker;

HTC VIVE Tracker 3.0.
The manufacturer states that the older HTC VIVE Tracker 2018 can be mounted, but is not recommended.

Inside-Out Variant

The following can be used:

Two VIVE Ultimate Trackers;

Additional mounts, sold separately. Meta Quest 3, Quest 3S, and Quest Pro
The manufacturer offers a separate adapter that allows you to mount Meta Quest 3, Quest 3S, or Quest Pro controllers on the gloves. In this variant, hand positioning is determined by the Quest controllers.
The adapter does not support Meta Quest 2 controllers. Quest controllers and the adapter are not included in the standard ContactGlove3 set.
