What are MiMU Gloves not?
MiMU Gloves are not standalone sound sources. The gloves function as a controller that transmits commands to a computer and appropriate music software.

They should also not be considered:
protective gloves,
industrial gloves,
a full hand motion capture system,
a VR controller with hand positioning in space,
a medical device,
a certified military device,
a critical machine control system.

The manufacturer presents the new model primarily as a wearable musical instrument and stage expression controller.

Hardware and Software Requirements

Operating System
To operate the new MiMU Gloves, a computer with one of the following operating systems is required: macOS 11 or later, Windows 10 or later.

Network
For wireless operation, a Wi-Fi network supporting the 5 GHz band is required. The manufacturer indicates that a dual-band router, referred to as "dual band," typically meets this requirement.

At a performance venue or in a lab, it's best to use a controlled, preferably dedicated, network. A congested network, firewall restrictions, a weak signal, or a large number of other Wi-Fi devices can affect connection stability. The official MiMU documentation recommends the 5 GHz band and highlights network load, signal strength, and firewall settings. However, this documentation is not explicitly labeled as being exclusively for the new hardware revision.

Glover
Glover is the core MiMU software used to convert movements and gestures into digital commands. A Glover license is included with the new gloves. The program allows you to:
combine gestures and movements with specific functions,
create your own way to control music,
send MIDI messages,
send OSC messages,
use machine learning-based gesture recognition,
interoperate with external music software,
configure sound control, effects, and other parameters.

MIDI
MIDI — Musical Instrument Digital Interface is a standard for transmitting musical commands. A MIDI message can mean, for example:
playing a note,
stopping a note,
changing the volume,
changing the pitch,
activating an effect,
changing a synthesizer parameter.
MIDI doesn't transmit the sound itself. It transmits commands to the program or instrument that generates the sound.

OSC
OSC — Open Sound Control is a network protocol used to transmit control data between applications and devices.
OSC can be used to control:
music software,
visualizations,
interactive installations,
lighting,
research applications,
custom software,
robotics or multimedia prototypes.
Glover allows OSC messages to be routed to a specific IP address and port of the receiving device.

Additional Software

In addition to Glover, a program or device that can receive MIDI or OSC messages is required. The manufacturer cites Ableton Live as an example. You can use, among other things:
digital audio workstations (DAWs),
virtual instruments,
hardware synthesizers that support MIDI,
effects processors,
visual software,
applications that accept OSC messages,
custom programs prepared to receive data.
