Personal cinema systems and head-mounted displays are devices designed for watching films, viewing 2D and 3D content, gaming and working on a large private screen visible only to the user. They can be used with computers, game consoles, smartphones, media players, cameras and other compatible video sources.

Unlike conventional VR headsets, many devices in this category are not intended for moving around in a virtual environment and do not use motion controllers or positional tracking. Their primary purpose is to provide high image quality, privacy and comfortable content viewing at home, while travelling, in a hotel or in a shared space.
